As an all inclusive honeymoon destination the Mopan River Resort in Cayo Belize takes some beating. Most people arranging an all inclusive honeymoon package, think of beaches, so why not be different and choose the only real all inclusive vacation resort in Belize, where the concept is new.

The real question that is asked by honeymooners who have stayed at the Mopan River Resort is “Why on earth would you ever want to stay anywhere else”.

There are many reasons for this kind of comment, and hopefully it will become more apparent when you read more.

Mopan River Resort is obviously set by the Mopan River, and is a ten acre sanctuary right on the edge of the Belize wilderness, and it now has a reputation as one of, if not the best resort in Belize.

The accommodation is in a series of thatched roof buildings consisting of nine cabanas, three suites, and a central pavilion where reception, lounge and dining room are situated.

There is also a lovely swimming pool complete with waterfall, which completes what is a very pretty sight when you first arrive at Mopan River Resort.

It’s a two hour drive from the airport, followed by a short boat trip in a little red boat, as there are no roads into the resort, and it is from the boat you first catch sight of this quite superb all inclusive luxury hotel, which sits amidst lovely tropical greenery and the colours of the flowering plants beneath huge coconut palms.

The cabanas where you will live, similar to the communal dining and lounge areas, are all polished hardwood floors, rattan  and mahogany furniture. The buildings are totally elegant with amazing thatched roofs, but with the most modern of conveniences, and as well a shady veranda with comfortable chairs, and are very privately situated

Your daily program whilst up to you, is one of different activities which even if this is your honeymoon, you would be foolish indeed not to follow, although there is no pressure on you to join in, but half an hour at pre dinner drinks with your fellow guests would be enough to persuade even the laziest to participate.

There is always pre dinner drinks in the lounge, where events of the day are discussed.

Plans for the next day are revealed enthusiastically after dinner, and eagerly awaited by the guests

The meals are spectacular, featuring tastes from around the globe, with a different focus every evening, and you will love them all. There are very few tables, thus creating a dinner part atmosphere as guests mingle, but Mopan River Resort is that sort of place.

You could well find yourself on expeditions to Tikal, Xunantunich, Caracol/Rio Frio Cave, Chechem Pottery Cave, Barton Creek Cave, to name a few,  The location of Mopan River Resort lends itself to these visits, and for example the famous Mayan ruins at Xunantunich are only a mile from the resort.

This means out in the morning, and back for lunch, and more inspirational food, followed perhaps by kayaking on the river to work up an appetite for dinner.

It is difficult to do justice to Mopan River Resort in a few sentences, but it is a truly remarkable place, and well deserved of its place amongst the best resorts in Belize. Being All Inclusive is a bonus, and ask anyone who has stayed there about the Banana Velvets, and the savoury appetisers. It may not be remote, it is still abeautiful jungle lodge and the perfect place for an active honeymoon in Belize.
