The Mata Rocks Resort is situated about a mile south of the village of San Pedro on the eastern side of Ambergris Caye facing the reef. With comfortable if basic accommodation it is a lot more than just a budget hotel. It is also a very good base for an affordable family vacation where you have a great choice of things to do and an hotel that will cheerfully arrange them for you.

Whilst the beach is right on your doorstep there is a lot of grass in the water that gets washed up, and whilst the hotel staff assiduously clear it away each morning the grass in the water and the fact that the beach shelves slowly means you have to go out a long way to swim. Conversely that and the fact that the reff gives protection means it is very safe for small children to swim.
